14th July Fireworks Carcassonne 2025

Since 1898, Carcassonne has marked July 14th with a spectacular fireworks display that rivals a Hollywood production. At 10:30 PM, the sky above the medieval city erupts in a thirty-minute explosion of vibrant color and imaginative shapes. Masterfully choreographed by the world’s finest pyrotechnicians, the show illuminates both the night sky and 600 meters of the historic ramparts, creating a truly awe-inspiring sight.

Following the initial ten-minute barrage of fireworks, an expectant darkness falls. Suddenly, the Cité de Carcassonne is engulfed in flames. Crimson smoke billows from the ramparts, creating the stunning illusion of the medieval fortress burning after a final, desperate siege. Just as the image sears into memory, the pyrotechnic spectacle reignites with even greater intensity, culminating in a final flourish of magical and grandiose brilliance.

The fireworks are launched from between the two sets of ramparts and directly from the walls along the western and southern sides of the Cité. This display is centered on the side facing the Porte d’Aude and the lower town (Bastide Saint-Louis). To appreciate the full scale of the spectacle, it’s best to find a viewpoint at a distance rather than standing directly beneath the walls.

IMPORTANT

With over 500,000 spectators flocking to the city for the July 14th fireworks, a little planning goes a long way.

Arrive Early & Park Smart: Expect significant road closures and traffic disruptions. The key is to arrive early in the day to secure a parking spot in the lower town (Bastide). Once you’ve parked, be prepared for a day of exploring on foot.

Enjoy a Day in the Bastide: Make the most of your time before the evening show. Wander through the charming alleyways of the Bastide, discover its museums and 18th-century mansions, or take a leisurely stroll along the Canal du Midi. The Bastide also hosts a special shopping event throughout the day.

After the Show: Traffic remains heavily congested for hours after the finale. Instead of rushing back to your car, relax and enjoy the festive atmosphere. Unwind at a café, or head to Place Carnot for live music and a public ball that closes out the night’s celebrations.
