Carcassonne offers several parking options for visitors, especially around the Cité de Carcassonne and the more modern Bastide Saint-Louis area. Here’s an overview of key parking locations, including approximate costs and useful tips.
Most people visiting La Cité (the castle) will be using one of the paid car parks closer to the castle. See the list below. If you are visiting or staying in the bastide area which is just across the river and where most of the shops and restaurants are, then you can also opt for on street parking.
There are small kiosks on the streets where you put in 50c or more and can park for as long as you need. There is a super app you can install called PayByPhone which makes is very easy to park and pay. for on street parking.
Be sure to NEVER leave VALUABLES in your car. It will be a target and though Carcassonne is very safe, there is no point in tempting opportunists.
1. Porte Narbonnaise Parking (Cité de Carcassonne)
- Location: Just outside the main entrance to the Cité de Carcassonne.
- Type: Paid outdoor parking, suitable for short-term visits.
- Cost: Around €5 for the first hour and €2 per additional hour, with a daily cap of about €12.

- Gravel car park near the train station: A 15–20 minute walk from the Cité, it offers free parking and is often a reliable option for those who don’t mind a bit of a walk.
- On-street parking: Certain areas within the Bastide Saint-Louis offer free parking, though spaces can be limited. Be sure to check signage, as some zones are resident-only.
- From 12-2 onstreet parking is also free.

- Peak Season Consideration: Parking in Carcassonne, especially near the Cité, can be challenging in July and August. Arriving early or later in the day is a good strategy.
- Payment Methods: Most paid parking areas accept both cash and card payments, most parking places on the street accept PaybyPhone app payments also.
